in infrastructure land a couple interesting events; on one hand Elastic Search goes public and doubles on first day showing product led and open source cos can scale despite competition from big boys like Google, splunk and 2 leaders in hadoop, Cloudera and Hortonworks merge, showing how the cloud and cos like AWS are commoditizing and eating away at these infrastructure layers, more on product led growth below and the amazing sales efficiency of cos like Atlassian…
My fave slide from the @OpenViewVenture SaaS survey we participated in @Boldstartvc - besides product first growth, what else is interesting here? Half are #devfirst - does not even include Elastic Search, takes time to build but then 🚀 https://t.co/RglDPYx0N2 https://t.co/wvqmk9RQPO

even though consumer, always great to hear what John Borthwick is up to at betaworks and how he is thinking about emerging tech for the future
Super exciting for #NYC and #cybersecurity, lots of great talent and customers for startups - we have 3 fast growing ones in NYC who have gone from seed and collectively raised over $100mm since seed round @security_score @bigidsecure @HyprCorp
just the beginning - The attack by Chinese spies reached almost 30 U.S. companies, including Amazon and Apple, by compromising America’s technology supply chain, according to extensive interviews with government and corporate sources.
key thought, using ML to determine what to automate and provide incremental improvements as well
When workers automate their own duties, who should reap the benefits?
not surprising - cyber warfare and nation state attacks IMO remain our greatest threat to our democracy - Britain accused Russian military intelligence on Thursday of directing a host of cyber attacks aimed at undermining Western democracies by sowing confusion in everything from sport to transport and the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Elastic IPO shows interest in open source and that companies can be built anywhere and also survive and thrive against the Googles, etc of the world - product led growth is the way to go
hadoop was all the rage and now 2 leaders are merging as cloud has been eating away at market for independent cos - lesson in commoditization from AWS
